| Message from the Principal |
 |
Dear Friends and Parents,
I would like to share the results of the
2007 Parent Survey. Thank you to all
the parents that responded to the survey.
Seventy-eight parents responded, compared
with seventy-three during the last survey
that was conducted in the spring of 2005.
MCA is an excellent school, yet we are always
striving for improvement. The survey feedback
reaffirmed the strengths and successes at our
school and also provided guidance for areas
we should explore in more detail.
What did we learn?
We continue to receive high marks for:
Our friendly, safe and clean environment
Our warm, welcoming community
Our nurturing, supportive and
enthusiastic staff
Our family oriented Catholic values and
diverse student body
Our high quality curriculum and high
school placement record
Our many extras offered, including
sports, reading buddies, and after-school
activities and events
Overall, the survey scores and open-ended
comments were significantly better compared
to the previous survey. Positive scores
increased on almost every question. Major
improvements were noted in the areas of
foreign language, technology and
school-parent communication.
What are the next steps?
Parents cited several areas for improvements
including:
The need for a new gym
Clearer discipline policy
Retention of teachers
The quality of the school lunch
The faculty and School Board of MCA will
continue to work hard to maintain our
strengths and address the parent concerns
identified in the survey. Going forward,
we'll report back to you with updates on our
progress and plan to administer future
surveys. As always, thank you for your
support and please feel free to call or
e-mail me with any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
Shane Staszcuk, Principal

Harlequins' Fall Musical Promises to
Deliver Laughs
This weekend, St.
Ingatius College
Prep's Harlequin's Club debuts it's fall
musical, Moby Dick, The Musical! Two of
MCA's alums, Becca Brown (MCA '06) and Morgan
McFarland (MCA '07) will don McLaughlin
Theatre's stage for this humorous play.
Tickets are still available for $9.00 at the
box office. For more information about the
play, please contact St. Ignatius' Fr. Ross
Pribyl, S.J., at 312.432-8354 or by e-mail
ross.pribyl@ignatiu
s.org
Below is an excerpt from St. Ignatius's
website:
The play is billed as follows, "The girls of
St. Godley's School for young ladies are in
trouble! Money for the school has been
depleted, and it will certainly have to
close. Leave it to these resourceful girls
and their unflappable headmistress to devise
a plan to keep the school afloat. Using
whatever they can find at hand, the girls
mount an original production: a musical
version of the novel, Moby Dick, featuring
their headmistress in the coveted role of
Captain Ahab! As Melville rolls in his grave,
our spirited girls run roughshod over the
classic as they parody fifties doo-wop songs,
Broadway melodies, gospel music, sea
shanties, Gilbert & Sullivan patter songs,
and modern boy-band ballads. What "The Rocky
Horror Show" does to late night horror
movies, "Moby Dick", The Musical! does to
Herman Melville!"
The show will run for two consecutive
weekends in the McLaughlin Theatre. The
November 9, 10, 16 and 17 shows will be
performed at 7:00 p.m. The Sunday, November
18 show will be a 2:00 p.m. matinee. Tickets
are $9.00.
If you have alumni information that you would
like share with MCA, please send to berna

| Family Mass |

Family Mass has been a long tradition of
Mount Carmel Academy and Our Lady Of Mount
Carmel, beginning over a decade ago when some
MCA parents and parishioners recognized how
good it is for us to come together for prayer

the 9:30a.m. Sunday Mass at the church and
reception following in the MCA cafeteria.
Please help the families listed below by
offering to donate breakfast treats or your
time. We look forward to seeing you at the
first school sponsored family Mass of the
