Questions
What should I expect at the GALA?
Picture the best wedding you have ever been to, a party that just got better and better as the evening went on, a grand opening of an art gallery, and major fun rolled into an event and you have the MCA ‘Black and White’ Gala. You get dressed up, perhaps drive or arrange transportation to the event, check in and pick up a cocktail, browse the items up for bid while nibbling on hor’douvres, visit a carving station for some fantastic food, catch up with old friends and make new ones, see the excitement as table after table closes, eat some more, perhaps have dessert, bid some more, and dance the night away! What a deal!
Can I Help?
We are always in need of help. If you like to close tables, assist with check in, assist with checkout, set-up, breakdown, solicit, write letters, or whatever, there is a place for you! Call Andrea Gawrit for details!
Can I meet new people and make new friends?
What better way! In fact, we know of couples meeting at the auction and getting married.
Will I have fun?
Of course!
Will I go home hungry?
No! Fine gourmet foods served buffet style including carving stations provided the food for last year. Need we say more?
How do I purchase drinks?
Drink coupons are available for purchase. Some packages include drink coupons.
What does ‘Black and White’ mean?
Black and White means that you must wear black and white attire. This is optional, but it is fun, be creative and have fun selecting your attire.
I want to dance, is that possible?
Once the auction ends the dance party begins, featuring live DJs from Brok’n Recordz and music that will get you dancing. Last year’s dance party went from 10:00pm to past midnight.
Can I buy something?
Both silent and live auction items offer you the chance to leave with many treasures. Bid early, bid often and remember, the money you spend goes towards helping OUR school and OUR children.
Are hotel rooms available?
Yes, a limited number of rooms are available, please call for details.
How do I get my treasures home?
You are required to take your items home after checkout. For $25, we will schlep it to the school for you for pickup on Monday or Tuesday. If you do not pick up your item by the end of the school day Tuesday, you will be required to pay an addition $10 per day storage fee.
Where do I park?
The Union League Club offers valet parking. There is also ample self parking nearby.
Can I purchase tickets at the door?
Yes, event tickets can be purchased at the door for $100.
What happens if I am in a bidding war and the table is about to close?
If you want to bid on an item and it appears that someone else wants to also bid at the very end, you can call for a final blind bid. Tell the closers that you want to invoke article 59, and those parties wanting to bid are allowed to make one final blind bid. The highest amount bid triumphs. In event of a tie, the final bid will be re-bid starting at the tied price.
Can I purchase drinks or food elsewhere in the Union League Club?
Only members of the club and registered guests of the hotel can purchase food and/or drinks since all purchases must be made to either a member account or registered hotel guest.
I don’t want anyone else to bid on an item. Can I take a sheet and hide it?
No, it is highly dishonest and forces the school to accept a bid that might be lower than if the sheet were active. You are not only cheating other potential bidders but you are also cheating the school!
How many items can I bid on?
You can bid on as many items that you want.
